We ventured into the mountains on a least traveled highway this past New Year’s Eve 2017. According to the map, it would add another 30 minutes to our already six hour plus drive. But what the heck, we hadn’t planned anything for the night, and we’d be home eventually.
Instead of taking our usual route on US-N 95, we turned on Hwy 361 at Luning towards Gabbs where we then rejoined US-N 95 on to Carson City. This was a unhurried trip avoiding Hawthorne ($1,000 Rock episode) and Walker Lake. I counted at least 12 cars and two trucks on the entire back route.
We watched the full moon rise over the mountains as we left the sun to set in Las Vegas. It was a pleasant way to greet 2018.
